Wireless models remove the cable between till and printer, which matters when the printer sits away from the terminal or when staff take orders on tablets at the table.

Two technologies are stocked. Bluetooth pairs directly with a single phone or tablet and is simplest for mobile use. Wi-Fi joins the printer to your network so any authorised device can print to it, which suits multiple tills sharing one printer.

• Bluetooth — one device at a time in most cases; ideal for delivery and market use.
• Wi-Fi — needs a stable 2.4GHz network and a fixed IP is recommended.
• Battery — portable models specify pages per charge; check against your daily volume.
